Since its humble beginnings seventy-plus years ago, The Sea Gull Shop has aimed to provide respite and sustenance to those who travel the many miles down to the end of Pemaquid Neck.  It's approximately fifteen miles from Damariscotta to Pemaquid Point.  Imagine bumping over narrow, winding, dusty roads in your Ford "Model T".

Many people kept livestock and much of the land was cleared along the coast and looked as though it rolled into the sea. The rugged, windswept beauty of the area has attracted sightseers and artists who've captured their photos and imaginings for decades. After an afternoon of sketching, one might stop into The Sea Gull Shop for a hot cup of tea and a cream cheese and olive sandwich before heading back up to Damariscotta or on to Rockland.

You can still get hot tea.  We offer regular, herbal and decaffeinated, as well as, iced tea.  We will still make a cream cheese and olive sandwich for those who request it. This remains a favorite destination to enjoy a sandwich while watching lobster boats chugging along, stopping to haul-in their catch.

Part of our ocean view dining room

What began as a deck with a few tables and striped umbrellas has grown into an enclosed dining room seating nearly 50 people.  Breakfast begins at 7:30a.m. and is served until 12 noon.  Lunch begins at 11:00a.m.  Our full menu is offered at this time for those who prefer a Sirloin steak dinner instead of a grilled hot dog.  During Maine's tourist season in June, July, August and most of September, the kitchen staff stops cooking at 8p.m.  All salads, sandwiches and entrees are prepared when ordered using local eggs, seafood and produce.

"Eggs Pemaquid" with crabmeat and Hollandaise sauce between fish and chips, a side of bacon and hash and eggs with wheat toast.

Due to a deed restriction enacted in 1885, we cannot sell alcoholic beverages.  We encourage our patrons to bring their favorite beer, wine or liquor with them.  We provide the glasses, garnish, ice and bucket.  Also, the nearest store that sells alcoholic beverages is five minutes away, so you may place your meal order and our staff will be happy to hold your entrees.

Fresh Maine lobster is served daily at The Sea Gull Shop.

Our menu items are always available to take away.  We will provide you with all the utensils and fixings to take your meal out to the picnic tables, rocks, your cottage, campsite or lodging.

The Sea Gull Shop's Blueberry Shortcake

A visit to The Sea Gull Shop wouldn't be complete without a piece of our home-style Blueberry Pie, Blueberry Shortcake (above) or Strawberry Shortcake. Perhaps you would prefer our Warm Wave Brownie Sundae made with one of twelve flavors of Maine made Gifford's Ice Cream. Whichever treat you choose, it will be a memorable ending to your stop at the end of the narrow, winding road overlooking the sea.

In May, September and October we amend the restaurant and gift shop hours. Please contact us for our hours of operation at these times.
