An old postcard of The Sea Gull Shop

The Sea Gull Shop first opened in 1937 as The Sea Gull Tea Room.  Guy and Myra Martin were the proprietors.  Sandwiches and pastries were served and a few gifts and postcards were sold.  Several additions were later added to the original tea room. The menu expanded to include lunch and dinner and their gift selection grew.

In 1977, the Houghtons, a young couple with five children from Massachusetts, bought The Sea Gull Shop.  A new septic system and well were added that season. We added new items to the Martin's original menu and included more Maine souvenirs in the gift shop to satisfy a growing tourist community.

Mark Houghton (left), Paula's third son and his wife, Julie show-off the Pemaquid Point, Maine sweatshirts they received under the tree. Their "feathered family" joined them for the photo!

We have continued to offer the same home-style sandwiches, chowders, dinners and desserts that folks from across the country and around the world look forward to enjoying each season.  People come to see the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, hike along the rocks and tour the Pemaquid Point lighthouse and its Fisherman's Museum.

Our customers continue to experience the peaceful charm that The Sea Gull Shop has been known for.  They return for our famous blueberry pancakes, fish sandwiches and ice cream cones.  Patrons can choose from hundreds of postcards, dozens of books of Maine, and several tee shirts sure to please the young and young at heart.  We add new items to our menu and to our huge selection of gifts and souvenirs every season.

A unique and peaceful location, Pemaquid Point and The Sea Gull Shop remain undisturbed by time.  The Houghton family works hard to ensure that you experience an old-fashioned, treasured visit.  Our customers tell us that we provide them with a warm and friendly respite from a busy world that they enjoy visiting year after year.
